SECTION 1: HERO

Two people in a house in Witham. Six at Daniel Kirby House in Chelmsford. Three in supported living in Norwich.

Learning disabilities. Autism. Complex needs across Essex, Norfolk and Hertfordshire.

Wherever you work, you'd know everyone's routines. Their families. What they're working on.

Not forty residents on a corridor. A few people you actually support.

47 care professionals across three counties. Scroll to see why they stay ↓

SECTION 2: WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE TO WORK HERE

You get time to actually support people

Fourteen years in this sector, and the moments that matter haven't changed. It's when someone achieves something they didn't think was possible. When a family tells you their son is happier than he's been in years. When the person you're supporting starts making choices they never had before.

That's what happens when you actually have time to support people properly. Not because we're special. Because we give you the time, training and backing to do the job the way you already know it should be done.

Supported from day one - properly

Funded induction programme. Buddy system pairing you with experienced staff who've done your job. Regular check-ins during your first 90 days.

We don't throw you in and hope you cope.

Real career progression. Not empty promises.

Support Worker → Senior Support Worker → Team Leader → Registered Manager → Area Manager

One of our current Area Managers started as a support worker three years ago. That's not unusual here.

NVQ/QCF qualifications fully funded. Leadership development programme if management's where you're headed. Training academy launching this year - train the trainer programmes so experienced staff can teach others.

Most care providers talk about development. Here it actually happens.

Small teams. You know everyone.

You're not managing 40 residents on a shift.

Daniel Kirby House in Chelmsford: 6 people, 8-10 staff team rotating.

Supported living properties: 2-3 people per house, small consistent teams.

You work with the same people. Not different faces every shift.

You'd know everyone's routines. Their families. What makes them laugh. What they're working on this month.

Not because you're supposed to. Because the job gives you time to.

Leadership that's done your job

Alan Betts – Managing Director
Started age 16 as a support worker. Worked every position in care you can think of. Lifetime Achievement Award, National Care Awards 2012. Over 35 years in social care.

Daniel Wylie – CEO
Nurse-trained. Founded his first care service at 21. Been in the sector since age 14. Probably hasn't done a position in care that we haven't done.

Tina – Head of People
Sits and scrolls through the social media chat where staff share photos of beach trips, activities, moments that matter. "It's like family standing there going 'Oh we went here and we did this.'" Asks: "Why would you work in care if you just want it to be corporate? We all went into care because we wanted to make a difference."

They've all done your job. They remember what it's like.

Work somewhere you're proud of

Daniel Kirby House in Chelmsford opened in 2024. Purpose-built for people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.

Infrared heating in ceilings. Six en-suite bedrooms. Quiet sensory room. Modern kitchen. Well-maintained garden. Prime city centre location with excellent transport links to London.

Our supported living properties across Essex, Norfolk and Hertfordshire: well-maintained, properly resourced homes. Not struggling properties patched together.

We don't get paid more money for putting oak doors on and making properties beautiful. But we believe the people we support deserve to live in houses like we live in. They deserve the best.

CQC rated us Good across all five areas – Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, Well-led.

SECTION 4: WHAT MATTERS HERE

The right thing to do

Not what we're legally obliged to do. The right thing to do. That's different.

We've turned down referrals when we honestly believed the person was already in the right place getting the right care. We've walked away from growth opportunities when we couldn't do better than what someone already had.

50 extra beds a year isn't a financial target. It's 50 people we can put in beautiful accommodation with the right support who'll have opportunities they didn't have before. That's why we grow.

CALM in practice

Creative

You've got an idea that helps someone? We'll listen. No "policy says no."

Shift swaps, support plan changes, transport solutions - if it works for people, we find a way.

Aspirational

Staff climbing the ladder. Service users achieving things they didn't think possible.

We support people to reach their goals. That includes you.

Limitless

Focus on what's possible, not what's convenient.

Support plans built around people's lives, not our shift patterns.

Career paths based on what you want to do, not arbitrary limits.

Meaningful

Jobs should mean something. You're not here to complete tasks.

You're here because someone's life is better with the right support.

Beach trips. Activities. Going out. Having fun. Not guts and gore.

"We're people people. We've worked in the care sector for a hundred years between us." – Alan & Dan

SECTION 5: WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Staff who've worked here

[EXAMPLE TESTIMONIAL 1 - ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, NOT A REAL STAFF MEMBER]

"I'd worked in three different care homes before Calm Futures. The difference hit me in the first week. I actually had time to sit and talk to people. My supervisor asked what training I wanted, not just what they needed me to do. Six months in, I'm studying for my NVQ Level 3—fully funded—and I've been asked if I want to shadow the team leader. That never happened anywhere else."

— Sarah M., Support Worker, Chelmsford (illustrative example)

[EXAMPLE TESTIMONIAL 2 - ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, NOT A REAL STAFF MEMBER]

"I started as bank staff because I wasn't sure care work was for me long-term. Tina spent an hour on the phone walking me through what the role actually involved—the good bits and the hard bits. No sugar-coating. I appreciated that. Been here 18 months now on a permanent contract. The training is proper training, not a tick-box exercise. When I mentioned I was interested in positive behaviour support, they put me on a course. I've worked places where you ask for development and get 'maybe next year.' Here it actually happens."

— James K., Support Worker, Witham (illustrative example)

[EXAMPLE TESTIMONIAL 3 - ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, NOT A REAL STAFF MEMBER]

"I was a senior support worker at another provider for four years. Loved the work, hated the way staff were treated. Constant last-minute shift changes, no cover when you were off sick, training that never materialised. I nearly left the sector completely. A friend told me to apply here. The difference is night and day. Rotas are planned properly. If you're off, you're off—they don't call you in. Management has all done support work, so when you raise an issue, they get it. Just been promoted to Team Leader. Actually excited about work again."

— Lisa T., Team Leader, Chelmsford (illustrative example)

What tens of hundreds of staff from other care organisations say:

"It's completely different to anywhere I've ever worked before."

What families say:

"Cannot fault the service provided for my brother! Kind staff are always prepared to do their utmost to support people based on their individual needs."

— Myra Serrano

"Making the decision for my brother to move into supported living was incredibly difficult. From the very beginning, the transition was completely seamless. My brother is happier and mentally healthier than he has been in a long time. I have formed a great relationship with Mandy, who has my full trust and confidence."

— Family member
